    Matzo Recipe Ideas for Passover

The best way to make quick, tasty meals during Passover is to use matzo as a base for your favorite toppings. Matzo serves as a cracker or sandwich bread stand-in. The crispiness of matzo contrasts the soft toppings which makes a winning combination. Here are some of the best matzo recipe ideas for easy Passover snacks and lunches.

6 sheets of matzo with different toppings including avocado, egg salad, tuna salad, lox, pizza, and hazelnut spread.

Passover favorites like Baked Gefilte Fish Loaf, Brisket with Onion Gravy, Chicken Marbella, and Mini Potato Kugels are especially good options for a Passover seder. For casual dining during the week of Passover, try these matzo recipes for breakfast, lunch, snack, or even a quick dinner.

    Variations for the base

Matzo comes in many flavors and variations that go well with these toppings including gluten free matzo and matzo crackers (bite-sized). Other Passover-friendly bases that work with many of these toppings include smashed potatoes, jicama slices, and cucumber slices.

    Storage and Make Ahead

How to store: Leftovers that have already been assembled will likely become soggy. It’s best to store leftover components separately.

    How to freeze: Don’t freeze.

Make ahead: Some of the toppings can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for 3 days like egg salad and tuna salad. Store components separately, and assemble just before serving.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are matzo and matzah the same thing?

Yes, these are just two different spellings of the same ingredient.

    What's the best matzah?

My favorite brand of matzo is Yehuda. It has a nice flavor and a good crunch. Nevertheless, any brand works with this recipe.

I see the photo for all 6 choices, but the only recipe and description that shows up for me is the pizza. I even tried to open the link in another browser and have the recipe emailed to me, but the other 6 options didn't show up. Am I missing something obvious? I can guess what most of them are from the photo at the top of the page, except for the one with bean sprouts (?) on top; is that chopped liver? Thanks! These look great!

I agree with you. It's so frustrating when Yehuda matzo turns out too dark.
